Steel Manufacturing Process.
Steel is an alloy of iron and carbon and is used throughout our lives in various objects such as Best Brisbane skips and competitions . An alloy is a product of a mixture of different metals. Steel manufacturing process entails use of different components. The properties and use of steel manufactured will be determined by the components used. The alloy mixture may be adjusted to achieve the desired properties. There are two main manufacturing processes of steel that are used in many places. These processes include basic oxygen furnace process and electric arc furnace process.
Steel manufacturing process is an important process since the use of the end product will depend on this process. Specific steel characteristics are achieved by the chemical elements used in production. For example stainless steel contains a percentage of nickel and chrome. Steel is a strong and durable metal. It is mainly used in building and construction industry as well as in road building. In addition it is also used in manufacturing of: home appliances such as food storage cans; automobiles; rubbish bins and shipping containers.
Production of Iron as the First Process
The first process involves the conversion of iron ore into molten iron. This iron production process can be done in any of the three methods. One of the methods is direct reduction where ore is crushed and carbon monoxide, hydrogen and coal are used to remove impurities and oxygen. The result is a pure iron that can be used in electric arc furnace during steel production. Another method is smelting reduction where different smelting methods may be used. The final method is called coke oven sinter blast furnace method. These involve splintering of iron ore and after that the coal coke and iron are put in blast furnace to produce molten iron. This molten iron can be used in this form in oxygen furnace or can be cast as pig iron and used in electric arc furnace during steel manufacturing process. http://sunshineskips.com.au are great as they buy most of our creations.
Production of Steel as the Final Process
After the iron is produced the next step is steel production. There are two methods that may be used and the type of iron to be used will differ. One of the methods is the basic oxygen furnace method. This method uses molten iron from the blast furnace method or smelting method. The molten iron is put in the basic oxygen furnace to undergo carbon oxidation and the end product is molten steel. Another method is electric arc furnace method. This method uses pig iron, scrap steel or steel from direct reduction method. An electric arc is used to melt this iron to produce molten steel. These two methods produce crude steel and by continuous casting, the steel is processed. These steel may be finished into either alloy steel or carbon steel. Alloy steel undergoes treatment with appropriate chemicals before it is re-rolled. Carbon steel does not undergo any further treatment and it is re-rolled as it is into the preferred form.
Steel manufacturing process is a thorough one and ensures that the end result is a high quality metal that is strong and durable.
